What were the core ideas from the readings?
The major ideas of The Ethical Life are everyone wants to do good in their duties and desires. Doing good was broken down into actions of good behavior and good deeds. Doing good was also subjective to the individual completing the tasks. For a robber, he was doing well for himself because he was obtaining something that was taking care of him or his family but was not doing good to the person that he was stealing from. When the book talked about deeds it talked about doing something that benefited someone else. While when the book was talking about behavior it was by doing for you to benefit you. Talking about the subject of duties is relationship building between anything or anyone that is a relationship. …show more content…

The writer wants to make sure that you keep your personal beliefs, about god, aside and keep an open mind while using the book.
What did you find the most interesting about the readings for this class / week?
I found that in 1930 when war and genocide were happening there were people trying to define good behavior. I also found that duties of people in relationships fascinating. I see that when you have relationships you are more obligated to succeed in that relationship so you have an invisible lasso holding that relationship together. The lasso is deeds and desires. Depending on how many good deeds or desires you do or have done to you this will make that lasso grow tighter or loosen so that the relationship is stronger or weaker.
I also found that in The Fundamentals of Ethics the Writer tries so hard in reinforcing not coming into the class with preconceived notions of morality. Morality is good but it by itself can’t be used to make judgments on people of good or bad behavior. It seems to be that the author wants to eliminate the moral argument altogether and keep the course as an ethical only
