The controversial topic regarding the ethics of abortion has continued to be debated in the past and most possibly in many more years in the future. The sanctity of life is a basic premise for many ethical decisions. Abortion can influence these ethical decisions through various religions. Abortion is the elimination of pregnancy by the subtraction or removal from the uterus of an embryo before viability. Many religions accept this type of removal and some are against it, both sides have their reasons to why they agree and disagree with the idea of abortion. Methodists deliberate abortions as a matter of morality. Most religions care for a prompt start of life, which is the real question that must be answered. Christians believe that abortion is not acceptable because they think the sanctity of life is great even in an unborn baby. They believe that causing the death upon the unborn child is unnatural and is rushing the death which can cause bad luck and other disasters to abnormally occur. The act of abortion in the Hindu scripture is known as ‘gorha-batta’ defining womb murder, described by Atharva Veda, abortionist is referenced as the greatest sinner in the society. As a result it is clear that in the Hindus faith abortion is an abomination. Evidence proving that abortion is not accepted in the Hindu religion is stated in the books of Chandrasekhar (1974) in which he pointed out that induced abortion, which he referred to as bhrunahatya (foetus murder) is a sin. He pointed out that according to Vishnu Smriti (c. 100 B.C. to 100 A.D.) ,the act of abortion which is the destruction an embryo can be considered as the killing of a holy person
