The current form of teacher accountability, is well known, but has little support. The system we have adapted to, judges our teachers and views them as simple minded. Tucker points out in the report, Fixing Our National Accountability Problems, that having standardized tests judging our teachers is not giving students a better education. Nocera uses Tucker’s quote: “There is no
Video Response 3 Addressing a student’s needs plays a vital part in the student’s academic success. Understanding one’s needs requires that a teacher take the steps to understanding the child’s personality traits, interests, abilities, disabilities, and so forth. Students are more likely to grasp the interest of learning a specific subject if they feel that the teacher is kind and understanding, just as Trisha and Brittany’s teachers is. Brittany’s mother mentions that a significant change is notable in Brittany’s self-esteem and grades (Kirk, Gallagher, & Coleman, 2015). Our current period in education is full of great change and opportunity. Students, teachers, and principals are being challenged to think, learn, and apply in different ways. The Common Core State Standards and technology are the main reasons this time period is so important. These two things are creating, "great opportunities within themselves" (Fullan, p.12, 2014) and at the same time are very challenging because they have "unclear implications for implementation" (Fullan, p.12, 2014). Both Common Core State Standards and technology are very complex and create an exciting time in learning across the educational system however, make it challenging for educators in the U.S. to be effective and implement in a way that maximizes learning.
In order for teachers to do their jobs, they need educational tools. However, in many large school districts, they “lack important teaching tools, such as computers and up-to-date textbooks” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2012). As a result of this, teachers are held accountable for the success/failure of standardized test. On the upside, both jobs are generally independent work without the supervision of a higher ranking individual within the field.
The effort needs to focus on every child and their needs. In his work as an education guru, Robert Marzano offers guidance that could lead us toward curriculum and instruction that celebrate student learning and achievement, but more importantly, growth. Formal assessments are good if they reflect points in the students journey, not as a one and done grade (Marzano, 2013). Formal assessments for students should only represent points on a performance scale. Marzano noted that "characteristics of sound feedback" include that it should be frequent, give students a clear picture of their progress and how they might improve, and provide encouragement.
I want to become an assistant principal for one simple reason, the children. I believe that all children can learn under the right conditions. With this in mind, I feel that instructional leaders are responsible for ensuring that the conditions for learning are embedded in the school’s culture. Although my role as a Learning Team Facilitator enables me to have an impact on the academic achievement of students through working with teachers, I believe that becoming an assistant principal will help me to be more of a driving force throughout the school. I possess several personal attributes that are essential in serving in the capacity of an assistant principal.

This is a key part in schools today because it’s enforcing a higher bar of achievement for teachers and students (Catapano, 2018). Implementing standards into a school system that are internationally benchmarked means all states and countries have a way of measuring their academic performance. They can use this also as a tool to compile scores and understand the weaknesses to improve students’ knowledge. This provides teachers with various ways to assess their students more frequently through observations and informal assessments to understand the student’s comprehension level of the lesson material.
