According to Howard Gardener (2008), the five minds principles are equipped with the cognitive ability towards recruiting and cultivating of great leaders for the future, whether for the society or in an organisation. As my job requires synthesis, few hours are dedicated each week to focus on creating of new inward knowledge. I recognise and own my impact on the world around, therefore I will extract information from disparate sources, and put it together in ways that make sense for oneself as well as for others. Responsibility therefore plays a key role in the way how I operate and position myself. The five mind theory acknowledges that it can be difficult to master all of the principles and put them into use when they are required. As a talented accounting professional I might be good at synthesizing, because I am professionally trained in processing a large amount of information and have natural responsiveness. But being a talented professional also requires the ability to think out of the box and behaving respectfully and ethically towards other people. This therefore enables me to embrace integrity, values and demonstrate social responsibility throughout my professional and social life. Generally in my organisation, we look to the leaders for examples of creativity, however if I wish to transform into a successful leader I too should dare to experiment new ideas and thoughts. Notwithstanding the obstacles they are, I will have ideas, but the problem is being confident in my ideas and supporting the implementation of them and those conceptualised by others, by removing any barriers. In my half yearly review for my workplace, we had to prepare self- assessments, whereas I had to assess how I was progressing in achieving my objective against some pre-determined measurements and established action plans where my progress was rated below the targets set. One of the objectives agreed and approved by my manager is that for the calendar year I should complete audit monitoring reviews for approximately 50 accounting practitioners, however I was below target, not a fault of mine, but there was not sufficient accounting practitioners in my country that require this mandatory review.
