The epigraphs of chapter 7, written by Mark Twain and Anthony Storr, typify the life of Chris McCandless and provides insight and reason as to why he went out into the wild. In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain states, “There was some books…about a man that left his family, it didn’t say why.” This specific quote epitomizes the life of McCandless because he left everything and everyone with no warning nor explanation. However throughout the chapter we find out that Chris didn’t get along with his family, especially his parents and when the right time came he was going to divorce them as his parents. William Penn and Daniel Pastorius Letter’s In the two letters William Penn and Daniel Pastorius both had great points to get people to come to Pennsylvania. They included the great soil for harvest, abundance of food and crops, plenty of land for whatever the people may need. But on the other hand Daniel Pastorius also gave us an insight to how rough the travel will be . Which letter did the best job in promoting the settlement?
There are three main branches of rhetoric that I attempted to mirror in my report. The first of which is epideictic rhetoric. This is the process of looking at the current issue or subject. For my project, epideictic rhetoric was looking at the current problem in California. For the current problem I needed to convince the reader that there was in fact an issue in California.
Martin Luther King Jr. used many powerful strategies and tactics such as imagery of the future, descriptive details of the present, historical figures and the use of logos, pathos and ethos. Throughout the entire piece, King used logos, or logic. He uses this tactic with the knowledge of explanations being more effective than emotions. When compared to an extremist, he took the idea as logical and used choices of words to show his passion, which also appealed as pathos.

Throughout King’s letter, he used various ways of persuasive strategies: pathos, logos, and ethos. But the strongest influential device King used was pathos. Now the word “strongest” has various meanings, but in this instance, it means the most successful.

Located in Georgia, the camp kept thousands of Union soldiers. The majority of them ended up dying from disease, poor sanitation, maturation or were tortured with violence. Even though Andersonville took place during the Civil War, it still reflects the events that occurred in Vietnam.
Cameron Moore Professor Bruns World History 11 September 2017 Analysis on Gettysburg Address and Thucydides, Pericles’ Funeral Oration The Gettysburg Address by Abraham Lincoln and Thucydides, Pericles’ Funeral Oration share striking similarities, even though both documents originate from different time periods. The Gettysburg address talks about the civil war and the importance of keeping the union whole. The funeral oration talks about honoring the dead soldiers and comparing their society to the Athenian society, because they put their differences aside and tried to work towards the greater good for the city.
On January 6th, 1941 President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered his eighth State of the Union address to Congress, known as the speech of the “Four Freedoms.” The purpose of this speech was to persuade Americans to shift their attention from the Axis threat to the British and allied troops in desperate need of support. During the time of this address, America was in a great state of isolationism. The majority of Americans sought to disassociate themselves from any foreign ties, including wars. “Policies to curb immigration quotas and increase tariffs on imported goods were implemented, and a series of Neutrality Acts passed in the 1930’s limited American arms and munitions assistance abroad” (“The Four Freedoms”1).
In "The Gettysburg Address," Abraham Lincoln brings his point across of dedicating the cemetery at Gettysburg by using repetition, antithesis, and parallelism. Abraham Lincoln uses repetition in his speech to bring a point across and to grab the audience attention. For example, President Lincoln states, "We can not dedicate--we can not consecrate-- we can not hallow-- this ground." Abraham Lincoln is saying the Gettysburg cannot be a holy land since the ones that fought there will still be remembered, and Lincoln is assuming that the dead and brave that fought would still want Gettysburg to improve on more.
The Southern Manifesto, is a document written in the year of 1956, February-March, in the United States. Its purpose being to object racial integration of public places. The Declaration of Constitutional Principles encouraged states to resist performing the mandates that were reached in the Brown v. board of education decision regarding the racial integration of public schools. This document represents significant historical events to this time, changing the way the system worked, and changing public schooling forever. Congress stated that it would reverse the decision because the courts rulling was contrary to the US Constitution.
The Gettysburg Address is known to be one of America’s greatest speeches made by the 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. The Gettysburg Address and Emancipation Proclamation made a significant contribution to history by recognizing all humans as equals, redefining the nation at the time, and changing the course of American history by abolishing slavery. There was strife between the North and the South of America, because of slavery. The South had already seceded from the Union and Abraham recognized that he cannot change the laws of slavery. ““My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery.”
In the Gettysburg Address Abraham Lincoln utilizes antithesis, repetition, and parallelism to reinforce his purpose for this address and deliver an emotional tone that can persuade all people to continue to fight the same fight that these men died for. First of all, Lincoln exercises the literary device, antithesis, to deliver an emotional appeal. For example, he states "... as a final resting place for those who here gave their live so that a nation might live. " The following words "gave their lives", meaning dead, and "might live", meaning still alive, contradict each other stating that in order for something to have survive, something had to die. In 1863 President Abraham Lincoln delivered one of the greatest speeches known as the Gettysburg Address. Lincoln started off by stating, “Fourscore and seven years ago.” What exactly does President Lincoln mean when he says these few words? Those who do not know, a score is equal to 20 years. President Lincoln was in fact refereeing to 87 years ago, which would be 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed.
Persuasion has been used to not change the minds of people, but rather to make them . “Ethos, pathos, and logos are frequently used in the Declaration of Independence,” (Root). Historical figures have used the rhetorical technique of persuasion to change the path that history takes. In the 1770’s, the Declaration of Independence was signed to show that the America’s separated themselves from the Great Britains. “That they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the state of Great Britain is and ought to be totally Dissolved,” (pg 115 line 19).
