“The Girl with All the Gifts” written by Mike Carey is a movie that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where zombies have wiped out most of mankind. While this is happening, there is a military base that has humans on it that’s heavily guarded from the zombies. On the military base they have teachers, scientist, and half human half zombie children. These children can talk, listen, learn, and act like normal children. The only downside is that they are hungry for human flesh. The Army Officers have safety methods to make sure these children don’t hurt anyone, and that they still are taught by a teacher. When the children are in class they wear masks that are like dog muzzles, so that they can’t bite anyone. They are also in a full body restraint wheel chair so that can’t move. The protagonist in the film are Melanie, Miss. Justineau, Dr. Caroline, and Sgt Eddie. Melanie is the main character, she is a young African American girl that is half zombie half human. Mike Carey the novelist and screen play of this movie did a very good job portraying what viewers want to see. Such as blood and guts, zombies, and tough situations for these people to overcome. The theme is how willing are the characters to trust Melaine with her being half zombie and able to kill them. At the end the person who trusted her the most, Miss. Justineau was the only person not to die. I think it was a statement for him to use a young black girl as the main character. There’s not many scary movies with a main character who is black, so this definitely makes his film unique. The monster is half monster half human with an appearance of a little black girl on the outside but a gruesome zombie on the inside. Mike Carey was influenced by all the racial problems we have these days, and that’s why he made the main character a little black girl and her mother figure a white
