In The Giver by Lois Lowry, is a community in which they have a lot of rules they would have to follow, so it could improve the community and help. This book is mostly about a boy named Jonas, who was about to be told what he would be doing as a grown up. Only the twelves get assigned jobs When Jonas is about to be given his job he oddly gets skipped and everyone notices it, “She skipped me, Jonas thought, stunned, had he heard wrong,” (Lowry 57). But after everyone got their job/assignment the Chief elder says that he has been chosen to be the next receiver of memory. There are some crazy memories he gets from this job but not all of the memories are bad they are also happy and sweet ones.

When he left the community everyone was looking for him and when they found his bike and clothes, they instantly thought that he died, so they went to The Giver and asked if he has seen Jonas, and The Giver obviously said no (because he was in on the idea.) So that would only lead to having on daughter and no son in the family. The third rule in the book was that there can only be four members of a family: father, mother, son, and daughter. Jonas has a sister named Lily, a dad, and a mom. If the family had a twin they would have to weigh them both, and the twin that weighs less has to be sent to elsewhere or else killed without anyone knowing. Jonas's dad injected something in the little baby’s head and when Jonas figured it out when he went to go see The Giver. But no one could leave the community if you were already in it. The fourth rule in the book was that no member could leave the community. But obviously, Jonas didn’t listen because when he found out that his dad injected the thing into the baby, and The Giver wanted to stay and meet his daughter. So Jonas decided to do something about it. He told The Giver that he wanted to leave the community. The Giver helped him escape
