The Giver Family Analysis

When you think of family what comes to mind? For most people, love,comfort, and caring are words that come to mind. This essay will discuss three family units: Jonas’ family from The Giver, our families in 2015/2016, and a African family.

First I will be discussing Jonas’ family from The Giver. Now we all no if you have read The Giver then you should know that the government in this book is very controlling. Some things that the families do in this book are not things that we would do today just like “Usually, at the morning ritual when the family members told their dreams, Jonas didn’t contribute much.”(pg 34) This quote shows that their family shares their dreams now I don’t think that’s somthing that we do in 2015. Another Quote from the text is “But what about the treatment? The Speaker says that treatment must take place. Jonas felt miserable just when the Ceremony was about to happen his ceremony of Twelve would have to go away some place for treatment just because of a stupid dream.” (pg 37) This quote shows that there not allowed to have dreams about girls and this quote sounds like it is saying …show more content…

Okay maybe not the first time but you get the point. Families in 2015 get to all this great stuff without being controlled by puppets. But in The Giver you can’t have that because there government controls everything they can and can’t do weather it is eating or who they can date or love. In 2015 you can chose what you can eat or who you want to love or date but you can’t just go off on a killing rage because then that’s when the law steps in and that’s when you cross it but maybe governments like in The Giver are trying to prevent that. But I still think that they are way to controlling. Sometimes it just depends on how you look at it. It also could depend on your
