In “The Giver,” it is a dystopia. A dystopia is a place you imagine. I say it is a dystopia because they have very strict rules, they can not be themselves, and they believe in sameness. They have very strict rules in their community. Like if your child is late to class they have to beg to be forgiven. Also they cannot have there own kids. Another thing they will not let you name the kid they give you. Another reason “ The Giver”s” community is a dystopia is because they cannot be themselves. Everybody has to be identical to one another. They choose the job, spouse, children, curfew, climate, and the food and clothes they eat and wear. No one has freedom in this horrible place.
