The story is about the history of an Italian mafia family and their organized crime over a ten-year period of time. It centers around the head of the family Don Vito Corleone who is a powerful head of the mafia but is well respected by the Sicilian community. The story delves into the corrupting influence of power but it is centered upon family responsibility, a father's legacy, and the complex codes the characters in the story lives by.
