“The Godfather” is a fictional novel written in narrative format by Mario Puzo, published on March 10, 1969. The story is about the history of an Italian mafia family and their organized crime over a ten-year period of time. It centers around the head of the family Don Vito Corleone who is a powerful head of the mafia but is well respected by the Sicilian community. The story delves into the corrupting influence of power but it is centered upon family responsibility, a father's legacy, and the complex codes the characters in the story lives by. To Vito Corleone, a true Sicilian loves their family above all. When Vito Corleone was shot, his son Sonny took over running the family business while his father recovers. Unlike his father Sonny is impulsive and short tempered. His explosive personality unfortunately caused him his life in the hands of their enemies. When Tom Hagen receive the news, he struggled with his own grief upon losing his very close friend, which he also considers as his brother. Even more difficult is his task of delivering the worst news he could possibly give to Vito Corleone. He is very well accomplished, calculating, and decisive.
