BBBBBOOOOOOKKKKK The relationship between film and society continue in the 1930’s. With the start of the great depression came the start of the Breen Office. The Breen Office regulated films in the mid 1930’s and the movie makers decided to embrace the American Values the Breen Office was trying to stand for. Sklar states that this new sense of American Values in film helped to “boost the morale of a confused and anxious people by fostering a spirit of patriotism, unity and commitment to national values,” (3597).

Despite some issues, The Gilded Age, or Industrial era, overall had a great impact on America. During this time, the economy saw a great increase, people were given new opportunities such as jobs, and the popularity of America increased globally. I really enjoyed watching "The Gilded Age", and found it very educational. I found the meaning of the name of the documentary interesting, the fact that America put off this image that they were perfect but behind the image were various issues. I guess you could say this proves to never judge a book by its cover.
Many Americans enjoyed the new films because they provided joy and laughter after the recent war. Most of the films during this time were silent with some background music like a piano accompanying them, but it wasn’t until 1923 when the first movie with an actual soundtrack was produced (“1920s films”). Movie ticket sales went from 50 weekly in 1920 to 90 million weekly in 1929 (“digital history”). New movies were coming out and each was more advanced than the last with new movie stars and ideas influencing the fashion and culture of America. The American people became obsessed with movies and attending the theater became a regular weekend thing to do (Hanson).
Do you ever wonder where all the noise behind the Roaring 20s came from? Entertainment was a huge part of the 1920s and played a crucial role in the society’s recovery from World War 1 and the reshaping of a more modern lifestyle. Some of the different types of entertainment in the 1920s were sports, movies, literature, dancing, and music. As a whole, many would say that the Jazz Age or Babe Ruth had the most influence on American entertainment today, but I believe that the evolvement in the 1920s is a major reason why movies are currently one of the top types of entertainment in the United States. 1920s Celebrities In the 1920s, talent seemed like a natural part of life. There were various celebrities ranging from artists, gangsters, entrepreneurs, musicians, actors, and more. The perspective and roles of women changed as they achieved their goals and dreams. Sports were an important impact that blacks and whites took part in.

Phonograph technology saw rise during this period, which allowed musicians (such as jazz instrumentalists, whose study is primarily based on improvisation techniques) to produce phonograph recordings

This addition of technology to the American lifestyle had the rich and the poor lined up to see the newest showings. The movies reflected American culture and personalities.
