Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby embodies the idea of the American Dream, which is the hope that anyone can earn success if they work hard enough. However, Gatsby’s concept of the American Dream is marked by his naivety and idealism. He believes he will be able to win back his love, Daisy Buchanan, and achieve happiness by throwing lavish parties and gaining wealth. However, Gatsby’s vision fails as he falls victim to his own illusions. The manner in which Gatsby reaches for his dream is ultimately nothing more than a naïve attempt to recreate the past, an impossible feat doomed to failure from the start.
