Summary of the book In the beginning, Nick Carroway, the narrator of the novel, moves from the Midwest to New York. He is conservative and inactive in this novel. He rents a house on the island of West Egg. Tom(Nick’s old friend) and Daisy (Nick’s cousin) live East Egg where is across from West Egg. One day Nick goes to visit Daisy. He meets Jordan who is a professional golfer. Jordan tells Nick that Tom is cheating on Daisy with a lady named Myrtle Wilson. Everyone knows this situation except for Daisy.

Daisy decides to leave Tom for Gatsby. One day, they come together. But Daisy feels really stressful but she tells everything. However; Tom tries to prove that Gatsby is not who he seems. Tom explains everything about Gatsby, Daisy finds out that Gatsby is not who he claims to be. He gets his money through smuggling. Then, Daisy changes her mind to leave Tom for him. She wants to go back their home. Tom carelessly tells Daisy to go home with Gatsby, because he knows Gatsby is not important for her anymore. They leave in Gatsby's car, then Tom, Nick, and Jordan follow them later. But Daisy and Gatsby have an accident and hit Myrtle Wilson ( Tom’s mistress) When the car hits Myrtle, Daisy is at the wheel. There was a social class between rich and poor in 1920’s. East Egg is the wealthier, more elite of the West Egg. Although Gatsby is too rich, he lives in West Egg. Maybe he doesn’t feel that he belongs member of the social elite. Because he isn’t born rich. The rich people attended most of the parties they drank and spent their money prodigally. They have top model cars and live luxuries house.
Although alcohol was also illegal in early 1920, most of the people drank and sold. Especially Gatsby earned his money with smuggling and selling illegal alcohol. He throws too much party in his house. Then people who attend always drink alcohol and have fun carelessly. Personal Reading
