Zakaria Chikhaoui ELA Block 2 April 8, 2024 Gatsby Characterization Essay In the book “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald imagery is used and helps us understand Jay Gatsby better. The writer uses words to make Gatsby seem like a mystery, rich and wanting something. Gatsby’s big house and his fancy parties show how he’s got a lot of money, but deep down inside he feels extremely empty because he’s missing the love of Daisy. His parties look fun, but in reality, are really sad because they’re not real. Fitzgerald writes about Gatsby to show how he dreams big but gets let down. Gatsby’s dream is symbolized by this “green light” that he can never reach. It’s as if his dream is so close, but is always just out of reach. His fancy and ginormous house shows he wants to be at the top, but on the inside he’s lonely and stuck in the past. …show more content…

Gatsby’s story shows us and teaches us that things aren’t always what they seem. His house and fun parties make him look successful, but really he’s just lonely. The green light is like a reminder that dreams don’t always come true, Gatsby’s sad ending shows us that chasing dreams without thinking about what’s real can lead to a lot of trouble. Gatsby remains vulnerable and isolated, where he is unable to reconcile his past with the present. In this narrative, Fitzgerald describes Gatsby’s mansion as “colossal” and full of “towers”. These words make us imagine a really huge and impressive
