As people in this world we all at one point or another want to recreate once what was. The book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a book based in the 1920s. It focuses on the luxurious life they are living. Nick, who lives across from Jay Gatsby, tells us the story in the book. The main character, Jay Gatsby, tries to recreate the past because he is stuck in it and wishes things were the same from before he went off to war. Gatsby tries to recreate the past by getting back with Daisy Bucanhean, who has her own husband now, which is Tom Bucanhean. Gatsby, originally born into a poor family, becomes very wealthy in the story; nonetheless, Gatsby shows his wealth by throwing enormous luxurious parties in his mansion where he hopes he can find Daisy one night, since Gatsby lives across the bay from Daisy where his house is visible …show more content…

However, Tom came from a very rich and wealthy family and did not have to work much for his money. Overall, The Great Gatsby teaches the reader that you can’t recreate the past and that one shouldn’t not lose focus of what is around you because of your one goal. We first see some of the parties Gatsby is throwing in Chapter 3. Nick can hear the big parties at Gatsby’s house: “There was music from my neighbor’s house through the summer nights. In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whispering and the champagne and the stars” (Fitzgerald 39). Here Nick describes and shows us the type of parties Gatsby is throwing to try and get Daisy’s attention from across the bay. This is because his parties have loud music, a lot of people, and a lot of alcohol. From this quote we see that Gatsby, who was once in love with Daisy, wants to try and impress her. We also see in the same quote that his party may have gotten a little bit out of hand. They are so loud and obnoxious, plus they also have alcohol, which at the time was not
