First, Daisy and Nick join Gatsby at Gatsby’s house next door where her and Gatsby get some time to recollect themselves, “He hadn 't once ceased looking at Daisy, and I think he revalued everything in his house according to the measure of response it drew from her well-loved eyes. Sometimes, too, he stared around at his possessions in a dazed way, as though in her actual and astounding presence none of it was any longer real. Once he nearly toppled down a flight of stairs,” (pg.112). First, in this part of the book is when Gatsby’s attitude throughout the rest of the story completely changes; therefore, the whole world seems to disappear causing him to fall for Daisy. Then, he doesn’t even compensate the rest of his house and how glorious it is due to Daisy taking over his whole entire attention span; this almost caused him to fall down his own stairs.
Gatsby’s goal to become rich by winning Daisy gives Nick a bad impression about him and Nick thinks of him as someone who is somewhat selfish in a way that he only cares about his own financial and social
Gatsby moved across the bay just to live close to Daisy. He threw parties and bought all these nice things just to impress Daisy. When Nick says “Gatsby and I in turn leaned down and took the small, reluctant hand. Afterward he kept looking at the child with surprise. I don’t think he ever really believed in its existence before” it shows how Gatsby had this perfect life in his mind.
Chapter 8: In this chapter, Nick goes back to his home in West Egg and later he hears Gatsby return home as well. Nick informs the reader that nothing has happened between Gatsby and Daisy. Nick attempts to convince Gatsby that he should leave, but Gatsby refuses and stays due to his desire for Daisy, and he explains his past to Nick. Gatsby says that he had fallen in love with Daisy while in Louisville.
This chapter begins with Nick explaining that he couldn't sleep last night and when he woke up he heard the sound of a taxi pulling into Gatsby’s driveway. He got up and prepared himself to go over to his mansion to see him. He went to his house and saw that the front door was still open. Gatsby explained that nothing has happened. Nick then tells Gatsby that he should go away for a little while because they might trace his car.
The Great Gatsby is one of those books where you must pay close attention to every detail or you may miss something that will later play into the meaning of the book as a whole. One of the many important scenes that does this is in Chapter 3 when Nick goes to his first ever Gatsby party, despite living right next to him, from start to ending chapter 3 reveals a lot about what is to happen in the future. First, going to one of Gatsby’s parties was a big deal in its self but as Nick finds out on page 41 was one of the very few people were invited to the party even though he doesn’t exactly know who Gatsby is. The fact that Nick was invited to this party contributes to the book because it shows how Gatsby has an interest in Nick. Later in Chapter
After Gatsby finishes talking with Jordan she asks Nick to come see her where she reviles the next part of his plan. Gatsby used Jordan to ask Nick if he would invite Daisy over to his house as she is closer to Nick and is afraid that if he asks himself he “might be offended.” (Fitzgerald.77) When asked why he did not just ask her she states, “he wants her to see his house…and your house is right next door” (Fitzgerald.77). Gatsby is able to successfully manipulate Nick, simply using him as a bridge to bring Daisy unknowingly to him.
1. I believe that the most crucial part of chapter 1 is the fact that Nick is setting the scene in a since. Nick tells the reader about advice that his father give to him. Nick tells us about his cousin whom he is there to see in New York and her, not so good husband. Also we start to see a glimpse into this mysterious world that Gatsby and Nick’s other acquaintances in New York, live in.
Daisy and Gatsby have just reunited and they´ve started their affair all over again except this time, Daisy has a husband. Daisy tends to spend a lot more time at Nicks house because he lives next to Gatsby, so
He plans for Nick to go out to lunch with Jordan Baker, a close friend of Daisy’s, and have him convince Daisy to travel to the West Egg for tea. When Nick wonders why Gatsby did not ask Jordan to arrange the tea date, she explains that “he wants [Daisy] to see [Nick’s] house… and [Gatsby’s] house is right next door” (Fitzgerald 79). Gatsby hopes that if Nick hosts the meeting, Daisy will see his mansion and be charmed by his extravagant lifestyle. He is self-absorbed as he only acts friendly to Nick and uses him to his advantage in an attempt to reunite and build a romantic relationship with Daisy. Additionally, Gatsby is hesitant to believe the past cannot be made up and he has
During chapter 8 Daisy is haunted after the fact that she killed myrtle. Nick confronts gatsby and learns that Daisy never came out of the house and nothing happened. Nick tells Gatsby he should go away, before the police trace his car, but Gatsby holds on to his dream of being with Daisy. He tells Nick the story of how they met, when he was poor, and how he was drafted into the war and had to leave her. He explains that Daisy believed they were of the same social class, and he let her believe it.
This describes a key point in Gatsby 's life where he decides to part from his poor family and his poor lifestyle. When he meets Daisy he is still a poor man but doesn 't want that to be apart of his lifestyle and wants to offer Daisy so much more. When Jay goes to war Daisy wants to wait for him but slowly comes to the realization that she is waiting for a poor man who cannot offer her anything except for himself, this causes her to move on and mary Tom. Once Nick comes to learn this he comes to the conclusion that it is all for Daisy and for the sake of proving himself to her that he has so much more
. I find that the introduction of the characters and that it is a narrative is the most crucial part of chapter one. It introduces three of the main characters Daisy, Nick, and Tom. It also makes you realize that it is a narrative by making it understood that an old Nick is telling the story as he is remembering it. 2.
Throughout the book Gatsby uses his actions and events that happened in the past to either bring it back or move on from it. His love for Daisy started in the past, and it is so strong that he wants to bring back what they had and not leave it. Nick takes us through his story as he learns more about this character who, for everyone else in the book, is a mystery and no one really knows where he came from and what his past really was. The way he started off getting his money doing illegal actions was not exactly the right thing. When Daisy leaves Gatsby for Tom he is devastated because Daisy was everything to him and he wanted to recreate what they had in the past.
The next morning, Nick visits Gatsby to check in on him. Gatsby had been up all night waiting outside Daisy’s house to make sure Tom did not harm him in any way. Nick advises Gatsby to forget about Daisy and leave town, but the thought of leaving Daisy behind terrifies him. Gatsby tell Nick that he had loved Daisy since he had met her, but he knew Daisy only loved him for his wealth and popularity. Daisy had promised him that she would wait for him to return home from war, but when he came back she was married to Tom.
