Compelled, page 18. “Her face compelled me forward breathlessly as I listened-then the glow faded, each light deserting her with lingering regret like children leaving a pleasant street at dusk.” F. Scott Fitzgerald uses compelled here because it often implies control over the person being compelled. Other words like beckoned wouldn’t convey the lack of control Nick felt, despite being otherwise interchangeable. Enchanted, page 61.

In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, several characters come to the American dream in diverse ways. The American dream constantly changes from person to person, and The Great Gatsby does a fantastic job of showing this in its characters. James Gatz, for example, believes his life will not be complete without the love of his life Daisy Buchanan, who in Gatsby’s mind is the paragon of perfection, Gatsby becomes obsessed with winning Daisy back and living out this perfect idea of a life with her. “He wanted nothing less of Daisy than that she should go to Tom and say: “I never loved you.” (Fitzgerald 5 109)
Every item in the poem has a connection to me, in some way. My backpack is important because of all the academic items I carry in order to get good grades and be proud of myself. Money connects to a constant sense of safety that I need to have, and my phone is an important part of my life because I'm always on it and it connects me to people. Music helps me deal with deep problems and my sparring bag is significant because karate reveals what life is like outside of school. The Great Gatsby is important because it relates to Gatsby's feelings of loneliness and hopelessness.
The Great Gatsby “‘Hello!” I interrupted breathlessly. “Look here– this isn’t Mr. Gatsby. Mr.Gatsby’s dead.” There was a long silence on the other end of the wire followed by an exclamation… then a quick squawk as the connection was broken”(Fitzgerald 175).
Danita Wolmarans AP English 12 Bean March 22, 2023 Analysis of The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby, written by F. Dear diary, Today was a leisure day. I visited Jay again, we set in his Study and talked. This was the first time I was invited into his Study; he was usually very careful about this part of his chambers, because of all those business stuff, I guess. Very unusual, indeed; but judging by the situation, I should be able to tell that unusual things are not that unusual anymore.
There are many hidden meanings and messages that Fitzgerald wrote in The Great Gatsby. One of them seems to communicate a message about people’s failures to accomplish their dream. James Gatsby, one of the main characters in the book, has ideas for the perfect life, but is never able to achieve them. He was not the only one who could not achieve their ideal of a perfect life. Through The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald described Gatsby’s dream and how he attempts to achieve them, reasons for failing, and the message that Fitzgerald communicates through their failures.
In the given passage from the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author compares and contrasts two sets of characters, Tom and Daisy with Gatsby, to surface the differences that had been drawn between them due to their attitudes and moral values. Through the usage of dialogues, focus on the moral values of each set and Nick Carraway’s description of the characters the author conveys this idea to the readers. One reason behind the significance of this passage is the fact that through the usage of dialogues and Nick Carraway’s descriptions the author adds a dimension to the ‘careless’ characters in the novel, Tom and Daisy. Throughout the novel Tom has proven to be a selfish and hypocritical man who would do anything to save
