The American Literature has made an evolution throughout the years. As the social, economic, and political aspects of life changes, so do the topics, the nature of writing and the way of relying the message changes in literary works. The Romantic period is one of the eras arguably discussed in literature because it was marked by the attributes of visionary idealism and individualism. Further, texts written at this period reflects a lot of themes realized through using the attributes of nature to rely upon the message. One such work is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald who through the protagonist Jay Gatsby explores idealism that links to the history of the American past more so in a bid to rely upon the romantic desire of the country to create a redefinition of itself in line with the great American Dream. The Great Gatsby authored in 1925 by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a novel that looks through the character Jay Gatsby's obsession and passion for the beautiful lady who is also a former debutante namely Daisy Buchanan. By highlighting transcendence, idealism, and individualism, Gatsby attests to the romanticism legacy in the American literature.
