Jay Gatsby ,born as Jay Gatz, was born in the Midwest in 1892. Gatz was not born into a rich family, his father made a success by farming as his profession. In order for Gatz to have a life full of luxury and money he chose to work as a clam digger and salmon fisher on Lake Superior. Jay Gatz also attends Lutheran college of St. Olaf, and since the little funds he did have wouldn’t cover the costs, he had to become a janitor in order to pay the college, which only lasted two weeks. The 17 year old Gatz would soon meet Dan Cody, an older wealthy man at Lake Superior and at that moment Jay Gatz changes his name to Jay Gatsby.

Jay Gatsby is an overzealous, delusional bootlegger. Tom Buchanan is an overly racist hypocrite in which nothing bad happens. Nick Caraway, the overly righteous and also hypocritical man, says he’s great at judging and is unbiased. The Great Gatsby reflects the Modernist sensibility that man is spiritually empty.
The Great Gatsby is a tragic novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, set in the 1920s. The story has many elements that relate to the Grail Legend. The Grail Legend is set in the same world as King Arthur, but is about a fertility character named Percival. He has a rags-to-riches story where his lucky experiences with people lead him to achieve knighthood and eventually his own kingdom. The Grail Legend in today’s terms is the American Dream.

It’s nearly impossible for a book-lover like me to answer what my favorite book is; it’s usually whatever book I’m currently reading, assuming I find it exciting, which is usually the case since I quit reading books I don’t find exciting. It's even harder to answer since I’m a fan of all sorts of books: fiction, non-fiction, self-help, poetry, plays, genre novels, classics… However, if I was forced to choose, I would pick The Great Gatsby. I feel that it's the closest anyone has come to writing a perfect novel. Its words are so scrupulously chosen, it's like a refined piece of poetry.
F. Scott Fitzgerald was born on September 24, 1896, in St. Paul, Minnesota and died December 21, 1940, in Hollywood, California. Growing up, his father, Edward Fitzgerald, was a salesman for Procter & Gamble which caused his family to move back and forth between Buffalo and Syracuse, New York until Fitzgerald was twelve. In 1908, Fitzgerald’s father lost his job so they moved back to St. Paul and lived off of his mother’s, Mary McQuillan’s, inheritance. As a child, Fitzgerald was wise and his parents were proud of him. An article published by A&E Network says, “Fitzgerald was a bright, handsome and ambitious boy.”
Jay Gatsby was a great man that was known by all. I am grateful that I got the chance to know the infamous Gatsby. The first time I met Gatsby was at one of his big extravagant parties he hosted at his Gothic mansion in West Egg. He loved to host these parties and anybody and everybody was invited.

I, Gatsby, have had many great achievements in My life. I have traveled the earth's wondrous waters and was an officer during WW1. But one of my greatest achievements was getting Daisy Buchanan back into my life. I have always loved Daisy since the day we met. I was lucky enough to get to get to know a girl like her.
