The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby is about a young man named Nick Carraway from Minnesota and moved to New York, learning about the bond business and meets other people along the way. People such as: Daisy and Tom Buchanan, Jordan Baker, Jay Gatsby, and George and Myrtle Wilson. The Great Gatsby has multiple themes, I think there is only two main themes. The first main theme is that love can lead to many unwanted things to happen in your life. The second theme is that there is no such thing as the american dream especially after a major war just has happened. In the book The Great Gatsby, Gatsby finds his true love Daisy in New York City on Long Island. He was also just returning from the fighting in World War I. He was originally moving to New York with another young man, but this man ending up taking a job else where, which left Nick to live in his bungalow alone making him next-door neighbors with Gatsby. Nick was then dragged into Gatsby life, even including his love life. He was even able to a little bit romantic with Jordan Baker, the professional golf player. Things did not work out for Nick he did not become successful in the East, and the year that his Dad had paid for him to live in New York was up. But, his american dream wasn’t the only dream cut short. George and his wife Myrtle were working class people. George was hoping to marry Myrtle, settle down, and own his own business. Unfortunately his dream was also cut short when his wife was killed and he threw his life down the drain making him symbolize the death of the American Dream. Even the great Gatsby was ripped away from his american dream of becoming rich and marrying Daisy. Although, his dream was cut short by George Wilson after putting a bullet through him, he did accomplish half of his dream. He started off as a penniless man, later getting involved with the a bootlegging business, he bought side-street drugstores in Chicago and sold illegal alcohol over the counter
