Most people can identify problems in a community but can never make a change. People always expect someone else to make the change. People like Big Mav from Novel “The Hate U Give” are motivated by fear. Just like Ron Finley from the video “A Guerrilla Garden in South Central” who is also motivated by his fear. Big Mav and Ron Finley are motivated by their fear to speak their mind. To begin, Ron Finley from the video “A Guerrilla Garden in South Central” is motivated by his fear to change things in his community. In the video he says ”It makes me feel so ashamed to see people that were this close to me that were hungry” This shows how Ron Finley feels when he sees people who weren’t able to get access to healthy food. People in his neighborhood were only eating fast food and weren’t healthy while people in other cities like Beverly Hills weren’t having this problem. After seeing problems like this occur in his city Ron Finley was motivated by his fear of seeing people starving, to start growing a garden infront of his house. In the Novel “The Hate U Give” Starr states “Daddy looks at the sky and blinks the way I do when I don’t wanna cry”(195). This demonstrates how his fear motivated him to speak his mind to his kids. Big Mav never wanted his kids to see him getting arrested or behind bars again because when he was growing up his father went to jail. Soon after Big Mav ended up going to jail for being a gangbanger just like his father.
