These toxic attitudes can cause immense harm, resulting in deep-seated inequality, divisiveness, and even destruction. We must recognize and actively work to combat these destructive forces to promote a more just and equitable world for all. In the book "The Hate U Give," some types of hate are police brutality, racism, and oppression. Starr grapples with having her garden heights personality and her personality at Winnamson. A few days prior, Hailey had still not apologized for saying a racist remark at the basketball court to Starr and things got much worse, one day while Starr was at Williamson High School. She finds Maya talking with Hailey and Hailey calls Starr a liar. Then Hailey blurts out, "He was just a drug dealer and a gangbanger…The cop probably did everyone a favor. One less drug dealer on the --" (341). Blam! Star's fist punches right into Hailey’s skull, and Starr and Hailey get into a fight. Starr's double personality is evident in her behavior towards Hailey, as she confronts her for knowing Kahili's true identity. Starr showcases her Garden Heights personality at Williamson, which highlights her acceptance of her true identity. As she integrates both personalities, she realizes that striving for perfection at Williamson is impractical and that fighting for what she believes in is essential. When Hailey sends an "apology" text, Starr's response of "things will never be the same" and blocking her exemplifies that she has finally embraced her true identity and is in complete control of her life. She no longer tolerates Hailey's harassment and prioritizes her well-being, emphasizing her growth and maturity.
