The company
In 1919 Homer T. Hayward founded the Hayward Lumber Company (HLC). It was a privately held family business. The head office was located in Monterey, California. The company had six lumberyards to serve the central coast region. Bill Hayward took over the company in 1992, he was the great-grandson of the founder. Since he took over the company, many things changed. For almost 100 years, HLC is trying to meet the needs of builders. In addition to full-service lumberyards, the company offer window and doors design centers, pro-oriented hardware stores and innovative construction solutions to save time and money. The company has 450 employees nowadays.

Included in the HLC client base were the single-family domestic housing constructors. Approximately 50% of the HLC revenues revenues raised from client constructors of which develop two to six houses yearly. The additional 50 % of clients constructed up to roughly 200 houses yearly in the central district of coastal California. Hayward has branches across the California coast from Santa Barbara to Redwood City. The biggest competitor of HLC is San Rafael with 3 lumberyards.
