The Heir is the sequel of “The One”. The setting of “The Heir” is set 20 years after America Singer won the selection and got married to a Prince Maxon Schreave. After America got married to Prince Maxon, they became king and queen of Illeá. They had four children, Eadlyn, Ahren, Kaden, and Osten. Eadlyn was the oldest of them, so that means she is going to be queen one day. When she was eighteen, her parents, King Maxon and Queen America, wanted her to have a selection because King Maxon removed the castes system, but although some people were relieved, others began to riot all over the country. But the parade was ruined when some people started to throw food at her and insulting her. Eadlyn then realizes that part of the population didn't like her. After the parade, she had a elimination, where she eliminates some of the Selected. She eliminated 11 of the Selected, in a rather unkindly way. Slowly during the selection, she got close to some of the Selected, like Henri, Ean, Hale, and even Kile. And she learned during the selection that people from the poorer provinces, or poorer areas, are uprising to end the monarchy, because they think that King Maxon doesn't care for them. Then Eadlyn invited Princess Camille, the French Princess, to the castle. Princess Camille is the heir to the French throne and is also in a relationship with Eadlyn’s brother, Ahren. The next day, Maxon, America, and Eadlyn were told that Ahren ran away with Camille and got secretly married, after the Queen of France approval. Because of this, Eadlyn ran to her room and found a letter from Ahren. In the letter, he asked Eadlyn to forgive him for leaving the family without telling them and he explains why he left and he also pointed out that most of the provinces are against her being their future ruler and she is the reasons for the riot. In the end of the letter, he wishes Eadlyn to open herself up to the people and try to find love in her life, and to forgive him again.
