A hero to most people is someone who has risked or sacrificed his life for others. Odysseus often displays himself as being physically and mentally capable of withholding cleverness, courage and strength. This is why Odysseus is a hero. Odysseus oversees those who seek him dead and remains truthful for his goal of getting back home. He tricks the Cyclops by telling him his name is “Nohbdy”. He then disguised himself and his men as sheep so that the Cyclops can unintentionally let the sheep out of the cave. According to the text,”I took the wooliest ram, the choicest of the flock, and hung myself under his kinky belly,pulled up tight, with fingers twisted deep in sheepskin ringlets for an iron grip” (1059).This incident provides proof that Odysseus is mentally capable of constructing an idea which can help him get of out of situations by being one step ahead.
