Odysseus As A True Hero In Homer's Odyssey

A hero is someone who is admired or idealized for their noble qualities. After all of Odysseus's adventures, he has proven to be a true hero. In The Odyssey, Odysseus is a hero in many ways. He has great tactics of leading his men through dangerous situations. Odysseus also never leaves his men behind. Another major skill every hero should possess is the power of knowledge, which Odysseus manages to always think outside the box. Through his journey to come back home to Ithaca, Odysseus uses his leadership, altruistic, and clever skills to prove to be a true hero. Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization to accomplish a goal. Odysseus shows great leadership in the stories within The Odyssey. For example, in the story “The Cyclops,” Odysseus saved his men from being eaten by the Cyclops. Odysseus involuntarily trapped him and his men in the Cyclops cave. Often at times Odysseus shows wisdom at the right moments. When they were in the Cyclops cave in the story “The Cyclops”. Odysseus told the Cyclopes his name was “Nohbdy”.”’ My name is Nohbdy mother, father, and friends everyone calls me Nohbdy.’” he said to the Cyclops. Telling him shows how far Odysseus can think ahead. Later when the Cyclopes came running out of his cave calling for help from his friends. He then began to tell them that Nobody has harmed me. So his friends think he is saying nobody has harmed me, and they don't worry about it. Another example of when he showed intelligence was in the story “The Challenge”. He tricks the suitors by doing what no other man can do. Which is to string Odysseus famous bow.”Now flashed arrow from twanging bow clean as whistle though every socket ring.” He was wise because now he has just given himself a weapon.
