Rock and roll is one of the most popular genres of music that is played and listened to. However, while rock and roll is very popular, there are not many people in today’s society that fully understand the origin and background of the genre. For example, I am one of these people and for that reason I want to dig deeper into how rock and roll originated. Did it come from one particular genre, or did it come from a variety of genres put together? Moreover, beyond listening to the music, I do not have great background knowledge when it comes to rock and roll. For that reason, I have decided to take this class to further my engagement and learning of rock and roll. While everyone has their own opinion, these are the people that I consider the “core” of rock and roll. Furthermore, while many people will disagree with that opinion, for me these are the artist and groups that have solidified my love and enjoyment of the genre. There are great bands in today’s time for example, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Linkin Park. However, my interest is mainly focused around earlier rock music which I feel made the genre of rock into what it is today.
