Led Zeppelin is considered to be one of the most iconic Rock N’ Roll bands in history. The band was created in 1968 in London, England by Jimmy Page from the well-known band, the Yardbirds, and they called themselves the New Yardbirds. After the original band members of the Yardbirds quit the band, Jimmy page along with the band's bassist Chris Deja acquired the rights of the old Yardbirds band and formed the new hit group, which consisted of other highly talented artists and musicians, like Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones. They changed their name to Led Zeppelin in October 1968. They were signed on by Atlantic Records and were paid $200,000 in advance for the session. Their most well known song, according to The Rolling Stone magazine, “Stairway To Heaven,” tells stories throughout the song, and builds in the middle with a powerful drum and roaring guitar that give the song depth and dynamic. Surprisingly it never actually hit number one single on the charts, because it was never released as a single, according to songcharts. In fact, according to the official charts website, they have never had a number one hit single because they refused to release singles. They were so loved they did not need to, every time they released an album it sold so rapidly that there was no need for singles. In 1969 Led Zeppelin 11 was released and was pulled up to number one on the charts and held its position there for seven consecutive weeks straight. Led Zeppelin 111 was released in 1970 and hit number one in both the U.S and the U.K. Led Zeppelin has hit platinum in the U.S six times.
