The hobbit’s life was simple enough before Gandalf came, but when he introduced Thorin and company - a group of 13 dwarves - to Bilbo, everything changed. While hosting fourteen guests, Bilbo discovers why they were in his home: a map, a key, and a plan for revenge. The map and key formed a way to enter a secret passage in a mountain that lead to priceless treasures and a dragon notorious for destroying anything its path. The dwarves wanted to go on a mission the win the treasure back from the dragon in which the hobbit job was to be the Burglar.

In the dangerous forest, Bilbo saved the company from giant spiders and the Wood-elves prison under the elves palace. They traveled away from the Wood-elves inhabitants and to the land of Lake-town where they were kindly welcomed. After staying in Lake-town, the dwarves and the hobbit journeyed to the Lonely Mountain where they found the secret door from the map. Bilbo snuck into the dragon’s home, stole a cup from his possessions, and discovered a weakness in Smaug’s armour. When Smaug realized the cup was gone, he was enraged and set out to destroy Lake-town because he suspected the men in Lake-town have aided the intruder. One of the townspeople, Bard, led an attack against Smaug to defend his home and found a hole in the dragon’s armour. By using a bow and arrow, Bard slayed Smaug and set out to find treasure in the Lonely Mountain which no longer had a dragon guarding it.
The dwarves take ownership over the mountain where Bilbo found a treasured heirloom of Thorin, the Arkenstone, and hid it. Seeking the wealth in the mountain, the Wood-elves and Lake-man encircled the mountain with plans to take it in peace but would use force if necessary.
