In fifth grade my teacher had us read the Diary of Anne Frank. This was my first full exposure to the holocaust and was a very influential period in my life. This is around the time I started to ask my parents about our ancestors and understood the ignorance of having a mother who was Bat Mitzvah’ed.
When Anne Frank says, “I want to go on living, even after I am dead.” She is using a metaphor. Anne Frank means that she wants her legacy to continue, she wants her message to live on, she wants her experience to be remembered forever.
Anne Frank got her wish as her diary is the most read first hand account about the Holocaust. Her diary educated millions of people on the horrible travesties of the Holocaust and is still a staple in grade school
