Through this semester as a class, we’ve explored many different topics that sparked strong conversation. One topic that I found to be very interesting was the topic that was centered on poverty. In this particular discussion, we focused on the actions that were seen in the video The Homeless Man VS The Homeless Child. The video was used to expose honest and true reaction of how the majority of society treats people of lower class. The authors of this video create a social experiment to see how people would treat a homeless man trying to get by vs a homeless child played by the author's younger brother. I've come to the realization that stereotypes play this role in society because people don't take the time to look beyond the external aspects of an individual. People don't take the time to understand and explore what make someone different from the next and at the same time makes them similar. The lack of education about a person or thing is what fuels the judgement against people. It is the way in which people put others down to bust how they feel about themselves. They don't take the time to think further to understand what a person has to offer about themselves or something that was not known before. Resulting in people adding and creating assumption about others that are, that have little truth and a lot of bogus beliefs. The lack of compassion is greatly presented in this video, it's a small glimpse of how society works. Society places people in these categories that keep them from truly understanding one another.
