How come people of higher class have supremacy? People in the lower classes have always followed the leadership of the higher class. Nancy Farmer’s novel, The House of the Scorpion, is exemplary of this imbalance of power in society. Matt is a clone of the drug lord, El Patrón, who rules a country called Opium. Matt’s purpose as a clone is to keep El Patrón alive by providing him with healthy body parts. Throughout the story, Matt is confronted by the unjust rulers in the societies he encounters. In her novel, The House of the Scorpion, Nancy Farmer shows that high class people create systems to prevent others from taking power through MacGregor, the Keepers, and El Patrón.
