The Hunger Games revolves around Katniss Everdeen who lives in a poor district. Katniss is chosen to participate in the hunger games which are a morbid and brutal competition which take place every year in the country of Panem. Every year, a single male and a single female between the ages of 12 and 18 are selected from each of the twelve districts as tributes to train for a week and then are sent into an outdoor arena to fight to the death. Katniss wins the hunger games and then a rebellion occurs against the Capitol. The first Hunger Games book was released on September 14, 2008 and the last one on August 24, 2010. First in the book the story is told by first person Katniss Everdeen, however in the movie no narrator is located. Second new characters are added in the movies which were not present in the book. Thirdly some very minor things are changed such as the depth of love between Katniss and her lover and Katniss towards her sister. Overall not many major differences occurred. The book and movie were relatively similar. The movie followed the same story as the book and tried as much as possible to stay on course with the book. Both showed the district Katniss is from to be a poor secluded area, both used the mocking jay symbol as defiance against the capitol, and both had the same protagonists and antagonists. I think the book is better than the movie, even though the movie was great and critically acclaimed. First due to the books being written in first person point of view Katniss is a much more complex character in the books than in the movies, I can understand the depths of Katniss’s thoughts and feelings.
