The hypothesis (theory before further study) of an experiment on 20 children aged 3 years, by taking them from their overcrowded and impoverished homes and for 4 days per week, putting them into a special non-residential day school to prove or refute whether enriching their environments, with focus placed on the development of their social and cognitive skills, can affect their levels of intelligence. The Independent Variable: The independent variable is the school itself, the scientist is changing the children’s environments to determine if this has any impact on their intelligence levels. The Dependent Variable: The dependent variable is the observation and measurements of any changes that may occur during their time in their new environment.
