Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed the film that we were asked to watch this week, Slingshot as it tries to explain the impact of the hip-hop scene in Palestine. They express their feelings through their lyrics; this has built a movement between the Palestinian youth since the early 2000’s. There are many different classes in Palestine and the overarching theme is that they are all very divided. This is due to many different factors such as income, occupation, location and so on. We see that the youth have taken a more modern approach when it comes to connecting with each other as they now use online means for conversation. They see their music as the only means to foster political change in a climate that does not really allow for it. Most of their music and rhymes is in their native tongue, which is often more significant and impactful than using violence to get their point across. When it comes to voicing your opinion and voice may be the most important weapon that someone can possess. They do much more than just speak out against the government as DAM and many other Palestinian artists lead protests and other peaceful demonstrations against the government.
