Colleges across the nation have been discussing to pass a bill that will allow students to carry a firearm on campus. A majority of colleges prohibit a student having a firearm on campus while there are some that will allow students to have a conceal and carry permit and carry a handgun on campus. There are only eight states that allow students to carry firearms on campus. The eight states that allow students to carry are; Texas, Utah, Oregon, Wisconsin, Colorado, Idaho, Mississippi, and Kansas. The most recent state to allow college students to carry a firearm on campus is Texas. The bill will only become effective in August of 2016. It is a common argument that a gun present would only make a shooting spree more dangerous and violent. In some cases it could make the scene more dangerous; for example how could law enforcement determine the difference between an armed student or staff to the actual shooter. If schools would allow trustworthy staff members to carry a firearm, many shootings could be stopped. Some states do not require you to go through a training in order to get a permit; there are states that will allow someone with just a hunter education license to obtain a permit. Some open firearm carriers are not well educated on firearms. This could lead to a lot of misuse of the firearm or accidental shootings. A common mistake by many open carriers is when they need to use the gun, the gun does not support the shell they are trying to inject.
