Today, currently beauty is considered extremely important in a lot of various aspects in life. If one is extremely beauty they are usually, held at a higher place and are considered important.“The Birthmark” by Nathaniel Hawthorne interprets the importance of beauty during 1700’s which is the story’s timeline. The main idea of the short story is basically that beauty is superseeds in everything even love. Aylmer, a scientist who live his days in his laboratory, who stays committed to his work day in and day out. Although for a short time, he halts his research, experiments, everything in order to marry his wife, Georgiana. As a result, Georgiana is heartbroken and now considers herself ugly. This is also important because this is the process in which one self esteem lowers. When someone points out another person’s flaws and imperfections, they usually began to obsess over this and no longer consider themselves attractive nor worthy. Until then, it had never been a problem but it began to intervene in their marriage and contributed to the deterioration of it. However, one day Aylmer tells Georgiana how he has been working on a concoction in order to remove the birthmark. To this, due to the her low self esteem of her image, Georgiana agrees. He gives her the concoction, and although the birthmark disappeared, sadly georgiana dies. The death of Georgiana represents how imperfections despite the fact that everyone has them, are considered ugly and looked upon with a negative attitude. The evolution of beauty has evolved and changed so much that it’s difficult to understand what beauty really is.
