Research Rough Draft History repeats itself. We hear this all of the time, but we never really take in what it really means and how it affects us today. Feminism has been growing ever since it’s early start in the mid 1800s, and it has been fighting for basic rights for women for over a century. Oscar Wilde’s play, The Importance of Being Earnest exemplifies the stereotypes and hardships that women faced back then and still face today such as the belief that women are inferior intellectually and physically than men.

This Gale research article over all of the waves of feminism shows the struggle that women have gone through in order to achieve the same quality of life as a man. Ideas that were present in the 1800s still carry over today and that is why I think that sexism is such a huge problem in the middle-eastern countries. Religion is also a huge factor in deciding who is in charge and has been to blame for many societies in which women are discriminated against. One way that religion oppresses women is muslim women being forced to “wear a hijab” because a man did not want his wife to be looked at (Feminism). It is important that women experience the same freedoms as men no matter where this may be. Both sexes should be equally represented as members of a community and should not be discriminated against. This theme is extremely relevant today as we can see it being applied in other countries around the world. Mid-western countries have such a huge problem allowing women their basic rights and religions also oppress women too.
