RASR In “Beyoncé’s Lemonade as an A+ essay”, Guy Dixon of The Globe and Mail writes about the necessity of essay writing skills and the useful application of those skills in everyday life. Dixon says that the skills involved with writing essays and papers, “critical thinking, clear communication, a careful assessment of information ,” can be translated to other forms of communication, such as project proposals and PowerPoint presentations. The relevance and importance of long-form essay writing is as constant or even larger than it was before because communication is one of the fundamental principles of life. Dr. Acheson argues, “If an essay is a complex and advanced form of organized information, then mastering the essay will help you do
This paper will share my response to the questions about APA formatting. According to the Jones & Hurley, (2012) the main parts of an APA formated paper are the Title page, the abstract page, the main body of the paper, and the reference. In addtion, the three major learning takeaways for me was why APA is used, Who should used APA and the amount of items on the citation and reference list. The first take away really caught my attention as I began to review the the notes from Jones & Hurley, (2012) which stated APA was used to help all of the readers to understand the written text which is beig provided.
I also learned about the end punctuation, the comma, parentheses and quotation marks. I am able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of plagiarism by correctly summarizing, quoting, paraphrasing, citing, and acknowledging the sources through MLA/APA documentation. I was able to organize my thoughts effectively, and pose thoughtful arguments and effectively support my argument with a strong introduction and well-rounded
Walden’s Writing Center offers many different resources that can be used to help enhance students’ writing skills as well as their understanding of APA style and academic integrity (Walden University, 2023). I plan to use the writing center throughout my time at Walden to help me become a better academic writer who has a deep understanding of APA style. Walden’s Writing Center offers students a Plagiarism Prevention Checklist that I plan to use on all my assignments so that I’m upholding my academic
The reason that I’m taking AP Literature is because I would like to understand different style of writing and how the author tries to sway the audience with their words. Another reason that I decided to take this class is because I want to be able to write better essay and learn how to get my point across without making it harder for people to understand. I also want to make a difference in the world with my words which has a big impact on people. I want to be able to write my story of what I have been through and how it has impacted my life but has made me stronger than I was before, and that anyone get through anything if you have support from others. I also am not taking the class for college credit but it would be nice to have it.
Proper Citation in Academic Writing One of the most important part writing is using other people’s ideas. You need to make your own version base on how you understand it. Reading others written ideas help you enhance yours, this will help you to make a good paper.
The 2017 AP Language and Composition course was purely correlated to challenging prospering to potential readers and writers. Its evidential goal was designed to build a basis of using appropriate rhetoric devices as to make his or her idea tangible to others. Although our “particular” class was very outspoken at times, overall I do believe we know how to better communicate our insights through both writings and in speech than we did at the beginning of the year. Unlike any year of English’s class, I concur that we grew in our level of proficiency as a writer and in our progress as a critical reader. Nevertheless, personally, I would like to believe that I’m well-suited in getting an A for both effort and skill based qualifications.
The MLA format and documentation is essential to writing a well-rounded paper because MLA formatting allows the writer to collect and research information that will validate all the main points the writer addresses within the body
My active involvement in the development of my critical reasoning/persuasive writing has shown considerable growth, as represented in this portfolio. Given the freedom to choose my own topics and considerable lee way in the assessment/diagnosis of my writing, I have learned techniques not only to effectively revise my writing, but also gained a deeper understanding of the elements that make for effective persuasive writing. Due to the unfamiliarity my peers had with my chosen issue (cultural incompetency in health care) it became critical that I used the preparation I was given in class lectures and conferences with Professor Fisher to help them grasp the severity of my issue. Furthermore, the responsibility I took in my personal writing development
AP Language and Composition is a course that I have aspired to take since the early days of my Freshman year of high school. Since then, I have been working towards this goal by improving my writing and reading comprehension. I should be a part of this course because of my passion for reading, my history of hard work and the opportunities that will open up for me. From a young age, I have developed a love for reading. Many of my favorite works have been found in the “Local History” section of my neighborhood library in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
With the assistance of classroom instruction, and practical application I have refined my writing process. In the first graded essay, I learned my paper was not written to capture a specific audience as I intended it to. Applying what I learned after the review, and practice of critical thinking helped me create a map of what I wanted to write about. I asked myself questions to help me clearly identify the audience that I planned to address, and outline the main points. Another observation I made after reviewing my graded essays was the lack of use, or placement of keywords throughout the paper.
Reflecting on the process of writing the first essay for this class, I feel that it is important to discuss my initial thoughts and attitudes because they may have affected my writing. I am taking this course at the end of the RN-to-BSN program because I did not realize I needed it. I completed two freshman writing classes many years ago, but they did not count toward this degree. Every class in this program has involved multiple writing assignments weekly, and since I scored well in those classes, I felt that “Writing and Rhetoric” would be relatively easy and stress-free. Now, five weeks into this class, I understand that this type of writing requires more thought and effort because it employs a different approach.
My Writing Struggles After taking AP English III, I became better at organizing my papers, but realizing I need to improve my grammar skills and staying focused on my supporting points. All throughout my writing career, I was always thought to be an outstanding writer, especially using vocabulary above my grade range. Naturally, I would see myself as an excellent writer as well until I took Mrs. Bingham’s AP English II course. Mrs. Bingham always gave pointers, tips, and work to improve my class’s writing skills as a whole.
Having the opportunity to write a variety of different essay styles has challenged me to improve my writing techniques even slightly. Having good credible sources was another technique I learned and improve. For most of my work, I used to go to Google, and just type whatever it is I was looking for, and usually I do not end up with that much great information. Now I start searching for information in databases because they are credible and more reliable.
