The way of communication has been altered substantially in the recent years. In the past, whenever we would like to keep contact with friends and relatives overseas, we could only call them on the phone, which costs a lot per minute, or send air mail, which is very time-consuming. Time flies. In today’s society, with the invention of the Internet, our interpersonal relationship starts to evolve owing to the ease of communication provided by the Internet. With the help of the Internet, we can communicate with distant people with just the separation of a computer screen. However, this leads to the problem that people would prefer surfing the Internet to interacting with friends in real life. Therefore, there is a controversy in the territory if the Internet will bring people of the world closer together.

First and foremost, communicating online may depreciate our communication skills as time passes. Interpersonal communication techniques are crucial skills as they can help us with multifarious aspects of life. Even though verbal communication, which is what we say, is a key means to deliver our messages, we actually give more information by the use of body languages like gestures, eye contact, talking speed, etc. They can only be shown when we communicate facing each other. Nevertheless, when we chat with friends using Facebook or instant messaging, we rarely have face-to-face interaction, so we cannot express our deepest feelings and show our truest emotion only through our words without any body languages, which cannot be replaced by emoji easily.
