Concussions are extremely common now a days and need to be examined properly. Should parents be most concerned about football injuries that could affect their children’s ability to learn new skills or participate in class? Will those injuries put their children at a disadvantage that outweighs the advantages of playing sports? The research is based off of these questions. The injury that I am deeply interested in is dealing with the youth and how a concussions affects them personally and in schooling. Some of my sources are directly with concussions and how it affects them in school. Others are directly with football and the concussions they bring up. Most of the sources have the same stances with dealing with concussions. The importance of prevention has been based on logic and expert opinion. For example, “static stretching has long been considered as a practice that prevents muscle strain injury, but has come under increased scrutiny recently” (Junge). Concussions in children take some time to heal and could take a while for them to fully get back in the swing of things. A quote from Driscoll in the Mayo Clinic Article, “Children need more time to rest until their symptoms are gone, which can take many days or weeks depending on the severity of the injury. Children should rest from physical and thinking activities for a couple days after a concussion and then return to activities gradually as their symptoms allow” (Driscoll). In this quote Driscoll identifies that children should be taken serious for their injuries. Any injury involving the head or brain is super vital. Children should not be playing football due to the amount of concussions are a part of their game itself today. It is extremely dangerous now a days with the concussions and the brain. Even if manufactures make the safest helmet yet, there still would be concussions involved. It is a serious topic and should be addressed in a number of ways. Children need to be extremely careful if still playing football. If you hit with your head, you have a likely chance of getting a concussion. Now a day’s video is being used to inspect concussions.
