In our current society, social diversity has become more evident. This is due to external factors like new communication technologies, easier long-distance travel, labor migrations, refugees, new transnational religious and aesthetic movements, etc. Internal factors can affect social diversity as well like the emergence of new identities, the formal and informal rights attributed to minorities and the people. (Vala, Lopes 2010:256) In these social diversities, our ability to appreciate other cultures is essential. Understanding and respecting other cultural viewpoints and behavior is essential to the promotion of intercultural understanding. In practice, this means non-trivial interpersonal contact between individuals and groups who differ in their ethnicity (Stephen Bochner, 1999). This phenomena can be observed everywhere in the world where they accept and some of them do practice the culture of others. Because of the colonization of other countries way back hundreds of years ago in our country, the Philippines, was not able to have a culture on their own. Instead, they are able to practice this phenomenon of multiculturalism where they adapt other cultures and practiced it as their own. Now, Philippines used it as the foundation of growth and development. Everything was a combination of myriad of traditions and cultures to the extent that multicultural schools have been established everywhere. Multicultural education is an idea, an educational reform movement, and a process whose major goal is to change the structure of educational institutions so that students who are member of diverse racial, ethnic, language and cultural groups will have an equal chance to achieve academically in school (JA Banks, 2009). Wherein, cultural diversity refers to the existence of a variety of cultural or ethnic groups. Cultural diversity gives the people the opportunity to experience a variety of culture within a society. As a country colonized by different colonizers, the Philippines came to adapt various cultures. It exposed the people to new tastes, and experiences. There are internal and external factors that can lead to cultural diversity. These factors may not be applicable to everyone.
