Destiny of Dreams According to The University of Scranton, ninety-two percent of people don’t achieve their dreams, and a majority of the time people can’t achieve their goals because of elements that get in their way. On a daily basis, humans create small goals that are easy to achieve, but long-term goals require dedication and persistence which takes a lot of stamina for most. Long term dreams create a lifestyle where people love what they do, but a majority of the time people don’t have the stamina or inner drive to achieve their long-term dreams. When Lennie was wandering around looking for George he stumbled into Crooks’ room, and saw Crooks playing cards by himself. When Lennie entered the room and Crooks noticed him, Lennie smiled in an attempt to make to show that he was friendly in a time period where discrimination was normal. Rage flew throughout Crooks when he saw a white person coming into his room, and told Lennie to get out. It reminded Crooks of all the racism he receives from working on the farm, and him not being allowed in the white people’s bunk room so they shouldn’t be allowed in his room. Crooks let Lennie into his room despite the racial tensions of the time because he knew that Lennie was relatively friendly, and they had a conversation. Crooks mentioned to Lennie, “‘They play cards in there, but I can’t play because I’m black’“ (Steinbeck, 68). All Crooks wants of the farm is to be treated as equal as the rest of the workers on the farm. When Lennie comes in his room, he is reminded of this and there is nothing he can due to be treated as equal because he can’t change the color of his skin. The quote proves that Crooks dream of being treated as equal can’t be achieved. In Crooks case he faces racism from the color of his skin and from the time period that he’s living in where racism is a normality. Curley’s Wife, Lennie, and Crooks all have dreams that contain factors that they don’t have any consent or control over. Like Lennie’s disability, he doesn’t decide whether or not he as that mental condition, and Crooks doesn’t have any consent whether he is black or not. According to the University of Scranton, only eight percent of the population achieve their dreams. The other ninety two percent of people that don’t achieve their dreams a good portion of them probably had elements that they couldn’t control which makes it inevitable that they can’t achieve their dreams. In this case all the characters in their book dreams contained elements that they couldn’t control which is part of the reason that they couldn’t achieve their dreams. Dreams are still something that you should have, even if only eight percent of people achieve them, because they give life a purpose and for you to drive towards even if they don’t go according to
