The Importance Of Eating Habits In Italy

Throughout this semester in Florence, Italy, I have been keeping track of everything I consume. I have noticed that while being here, my eating habits have changed extremely. During this past summer, I had been eating very healthy. I would start each day with smoothies or eggs for breakfast and then a variety of protein for dinner. However, because I was working all day, I would only eat two or three times a day. Since being abroad, I eat three meals a day and usually snack two or more times throughout the day. After looking through all the pictures I have taken of my food while being here, the majority of the pictures are different types of pasta, pizza, sandwiches and gelato. Although, I find it is okay to eat these occasionally, it is not like me to eat them as much as I have been. A lot of my pictures also included some form of dairy. Although, I have always eaten a lot of dairy, I think the consumption has increased. Whether it’s pasta with cheese or pizza or cheese for an appetizer, I am always eating cheese here. I tend to snack a lot throughout the day and sometimes even skip meals. I never really realized this until looking back now. I think I have definitely gotten more into snacking, since being in Italy. But keeping track of my consumption made me realize that I eat a lot of unhealthy snacks. I never eat fruit or vegetables as a snack and I have always been like this. At home, I would eat a box of Cheese Itz once a week and that is very unhealthy. Whenever I’m sitting around in my apartment or even at home, if the junk food is readily available I just go for it because it is there. In college, it 's harder to pay for your own food supply, so it’s easier to eat chips that you can get at the dining hall or cheap
