Dumlao 's article gave a brief overview on different areas of family communication that researchers observe, when studying how families communicate with one another. The three types of scholarship that grabbed my attention were intercultural communication, the concept of attachment when it comes to communicating in the family (specifically mother-child talk), and family communication and boundary management. I have seen how these things affect families both positively and negatively.
Intercultural communication can be defined as the way we communicate with and between other cultures and how we do that appropriately. Socha researched communication, race and families at the same time and stated, "To better prepare children for their communication futures, parents need to become more aware of their unique role as teachers of communication, especially intercultural communication. Parents need to ask themselves: Is the way that my child and I communicate today best preparing children for interacting with a wide variety of people from many cultures as adults in 15-20 years?" He also notes, "Family communication plays a significant role in creating communicative environments that can foster such trust among children and adults." There 's no secret that there are racial issues every between everybody.
