In the book Of Mice and Men, two men are traveling around California to find work during the Great Depression. They have known each other for a very long time because Lennie’s Aunt Clara wanted George to look after him. George, the leader, is the person who chooses where they go and work. Lennie just simply follows along and does the work. Lennie has a mental disability that causes him to forget things quickly, not talk properly, and do things that a normal man wouldn’t do.
This essay will be answering the question “Is Lennie capable of building mature relationships with other characters in the Book Of Mice and Men by George Steinbeck?” The book Of Mice and Men By John Steinbeck is set during the Great Depression in the United States. The main characters are George and Lennie who are complete opposites. Of Mice and Men has two main characters George and Lennie who are completely opposite in all ways. Of Mice and Men talks about many different themes including Depression, Loneliness and Racism.
Steinbeck says that with companionship, people act more loving. One of Steinbeck's greatest books Of Mice and Men focuses on companionship. Steinbeck shows how companionship remains in our lives. The theme of the book portrays on how spending life alone affects you. But it also shows the benefits of it.
They don’t always end up with the outcome that you want or thought would happen. We have no control over what will happen, we can only experience the feelings that are caused. George is a good friend to Lennie; however, George gets annoyed with Lennie very easily. He does this to make sure he doesn't get into trouble or lost.
In the novel of “Of Mice and Men” power and friendship is the very bases of the story. There are many people with power in the book but I specifically was interested in Curley’s power. Curley is the son of the Ranch’s boss and he is very spoiled. He does not listen to rules and usually gets away with any trouble he makes or gets into.
Of Mice and Men was published in 1937 during a time of bi-racism between the caucasians and the african americans, and the apathetic Great Depression, which may have served as inspiration. In the novel two opposites attract, a gargantuan but mentally challenged man by the name of Lennie, and a small, nimble, and intelligent man named George. Suffering from a mental illness Lennie gets into trouble when he 's alone, but George always saves him, George knows Lennie doesn 't do anything, “out of meanness” as he says. Undoubtedly the reader assimilates that Lennie kills a young lady, said to have done so accidentally. Furthermore without any control George was forced to kill Lennie.
In ‘Of Mice and Men’, written by John Steinbeck, friendship is portrayed as one of the main themes in this novella and a very important part of people’s lives. Steinbeck also portrays friendship by highlighting the importance of friendship and showing how its presence and absence can trigger many positive and negative emotions. Its presence creates hope, feeling of companionship and a sense of responsibility. In spite of friendship’s presence creating positive feelings, its absence does the complete opposite. It generates a feeling of loneliness and isolation.
In John Steinbeck´s Of Mice and Men, the ideas of companionship and friendship are addressed greatly. George and Lennie are companions who have traveled alongside each other for a long time. They have to keep moving because Lennie causes trouble, and essentially strains their relationship. Although they have issues, they have a deep connection which benefits each of them. Steinbeck´s Of Mice and Men uses motifs and characterization to show that companionship is beneficial to individuals.
The theme of Of Mice and Men is friendship. I choose friendship as the theme of the book Of Mice and Men because Lennie and George always were traveling together and looking out for each other. In my poem, I choose to include the quote “It’s a lot nicer to go around with a guy you know. ”(line 1 of poem pg 18). I think that it relates to the theme because it shows how the two are friends and they care about each.
George and Lennie are the main characters in this story. They are two young friends who were left with nothing except some hopes and dreams. George and Lennie have dreamt of having and owning a small farm, but they were not able to fulfill their wishes because their lives were followed by heartbreaking failure. In the text, ‘Of Mice and Men’, friendship is portrayed in a very confusing way. It is dangerous so as to say.
Friends are a gift especially true friends. They do many things to benefit each other. The friendship throughout this paper is based on the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. There are two men in the novella named George Milton and Lennie Small. They have the best of friendship.
Friendship and social interactions are part of what makes humans truly unique. Friendship is an integral part of the message and plot in John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. John Steinbeck portrays friendship as a give-and-take relationship, where sacrifices are made by both members as a prevention to loneliness. First, George sacrifices many things in order to maintain his friendship with Lennie, displaying that sacrifice is necessary in order to build strong relationships. The second element of this theme is friendship is a method to combat loneliness.
The story Of Mice and Men can be called a story of true friendship because it talks about two guys that been together most of their lives and how they took care of each other. The qualities I look for in a friend is First, Loyalty because I wouldn't want him or her to backstab me or Tell on me for something I did or spread rumors of personal stuff about me. I want them to be loyal because if i ever got into some trouble i want to know they will be there for me no matter what. Second, I would want them look out for me make sure i'm doing good and keeping me out of trouble. Third, The last quality I would want a friend to have is them to have a sense of humor.
In John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men there are a lot of themes. The themes consist of friendship, loneliness, discrimination and dreams. All of these themes are important, and play immense role in the outcome at the end. The major theme is that friends stick together; unconditionally; this is demonstrated through Lennie and George's actions in Weed, in the bunk house, and in the aftermath of Curly's wife's death. One example of true friends sticking together is exemplified when George stays with Lennie after Lennie's actions in Weed.
