Should We Help The Homeless? As once written by Andrew Carnegie, “The problem of our age is the proper administration of wealth, so that the ties of brotherhood may still bind together the rich and poor in harmonious relationship” (Carnegie) Homelessness has been around for centuries, just like the debate over Americans helping the homeless or letting them fend for themselves. There are many aspects must which should be considered in the argument of whether we, the American people and higher class, should help them or not; such as the ethical values of the situation from both the poor and those involved in helping, the cultural and social causes, and effects on their lives.
Sandi Vidal states in her article “Shared Vision Is a Must for Solving Homelessness,” that the homelessness problem in America is one that has made itself an unignorable issue. People in a community need to work together to address this problem. While individuals can help to slow down the rate of this growing issue, it can not be reversed unless a community is proactive and decides to make a change together. Vidal uses many rhetorical strategies to stress her stance on homelessness. Her use of persuasive appeals build her argument and helps defend her point of view.
The novel Native Son by Richard Wright speaks volumes about mistakes and denial, and how in situations a mistake can be the opening to a much deeper darker hole. In the novel one could even say the denial shown by the protagonist is a large reason why the book ends with Bigger behind bars. While Bigger continued to murder throughout the story, he kept pushing his voice of reason to the back of his mind, completely ignoring it which ultimately ended with Bigger’s demise. In Native Son Bigger cannot seem to accept his mistakes, his bad deeds are brushed aside, In his mind he cannot see himself as the villain; This denial and ignorance leads to his imprisonment. One of the biggest issues facing this great nations citizens and even some of our war hero veterans, is that of being homeless. As well as residing in poor income housing and very poor conditions. With the number of homes and land available throughout the country, and the majority of it being owned by private interest and banks is an outrage. If we do not deal with homelessness and poverty, we may end up like Detroit, Michigan.
Why does a popular and expensive tourist spot in the middle of the Pacific Ocean have so many homeless people? People dream of vacationing and living the good life in Hawaii. However, there are many people in Hawaii who live in homelessness. The Hawaiian government is trying to help the homeless with numerous efforts. The government has announced that they are using the program, Housing First, which is a nation-wide program known to be the most efficient way to getting people who are suffering from chronic illness off the streets (“Housing First”).
Why do people say homeless people are an issue? What do you think happened or cause them to be homeless? what could we do about ?, In matter of facts there are over hundreds of homeless people in Oahu,Hawaii especially in Waikiki. People thought we should remote them into another island.
The social issue that I picked is homelessness. Homelessness is a real issue, even if we don’t always see it. Homelessness doesn’t just mean you don’t have a roof over your head, it means you don’t have food, a good education, a healthy lifestyle, or a warm place to sleep every night. Some people don’t think very highly about homeless people, they think that it's their fault that they are where they are in life. Homelessness is going to end up becoming a bigger problem.
I 'm actually torn on this issue. The current price tag to support the homeless, or possibly even the underemployed, is enormous, and what we 've been doing clearly isn 't working. Changes to how we live, and technology have rendered many jobs obsolete, or soon to be obsolete so can 't expect people to work in unskilled jobs when those jobs don 't exist anymore. There will always be people who cannot support themselves due to mental or physical challenges, and society should ensure that they are provided for. There will also always be those who, due to an event or situation, find themselves without a home or means to provide for themselves; these people need assistance for a relatively short period of time.
There are many different ways that you can help students that are dealing with homelessness. John Heegard,a veteran teacher said that “The way I look at it, my job is to build relationships, get to know my kids. I have to be honest, open, and treat them like young adults, which is what they are. Valencia and I already had a relationship, so the trust level was at a place where she could trust me.” (Holgersson, 2010).
The number of homeless people sleeping on the streets of the United States hasn't changed over the years. Many people use the least effective ways in helping the homeless. On the other hand, the most effective ways in helping the homeless are: giving homeless people a voice, giving the homeless access to shelters without being judged on how they behave, and supporting the non-profit organizations that want to end homelessness. A great way to help the homeless is giving homeless people a voice.
There are over 600,000 homeless people in America today. This has become a big issue over time that needs attention. No one likes to see people in need, struggling to make a living. Homelessness in America is constantly being talked about, but no one makes a move to help all of those people who need it. There are a lot of problems that come with homelessness, such as finding a way to fund this project, how are the homeless going to be helped in the meantime, and how are they going to be assisted after they find decent homes.
The National Center on Family Homelessness at American Institutes for Research (NCFH) released a report exposing that 2.5 million children are homeless in America. (Mclean, 2015) California is the wealthiest state in the country but ranked third worst in the extent of homelessness, the second worst in policy, and in the lower half of the US in terms of risk and wellbeing, making it the third worst US state for child homelessness overall. (Mclean, 2015) Rent is increasing as income is decreasing or staying the same.
You see people on the streets begging for money, and a lot of time people question why don’t they just get a job. It’s consistently thought that a simple solution to being homeless is getting a job. If you need money than go work for it. This is an oversimplification and makes it seem as if it’s easy to solve homelessness. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found that about 4.1% of the population is unemployed.
An effective way to address the problem of homelessness in America is to continue creating affordable housing, maintaining assistance programs, and continue creating workforce
People that are homeless or become homeless today, experience so much they are not sure what to do because they think they do not have help from anyone or somewhere to sleep. Adults are not the only people that become homeless, teenagers become homeless as well because before they turn 18 some will run away from home at least one time. While these people are sitting on the street, they experience numerous things such as abuse from other people, drugs, unemployment or not able to find a job, etc. Everyday when people drive or walk by someone thats is homeless, glancing at their sign reading what it says to make them feel sad for them. However, by doing something small for them makes an impact in someone else’s eyes.
