Governor’s School Essay Response Ever since I was young you could always find me toying around with objects trying to figure out how they worked. Taking them apart, studying them, and then reconstructing them back together was a usual past time for me. Looking back I realized that all of the time I spent on learning how something worked was the foundation that flourished into my passion for engineering.
It contains the written articulations of the written language with the speed and fluidity of the oral language. It allows for the mixing of a myriad of voices in one place. When Carr talks about skimming and bouncing around, I do not think about myself surfing the internet, rather I think back to the last time I had a deep philosophical conversation with a group of friends. Even during recess there was the option to stay inside and play on the computer at my school. There would be days where it was beautiful outside and I decided instead to stay inside and play on the computer.

In her study, Lunsford collected thousands of student writing samples from a five-year period, specifically from 2001-2006 (Thompson 157). The findings of her study are gripping. She found that because young people do much of their communicating via online forums, the additional keystrokes are fundamental in reviving their ability to write (Thompson 157). A whopping thirty-eight percent of all writing done by Stanford students during this study occurred outside of the classroom (Thompson 157). This piece of information alone may be indication enough that her logic was strategic.
To me, programming seems to align with everything in my life that was lacking security, normality, and “syntax.” Growing up acquainted with PTSD has allowed me to push through difficult times and stay determined.
