When I started here at the Non Commissioned Officer Academy I was aware that I had weaknesses like not being personable or picking the wrong times to try and work something out, but thru the Course 15 material and research I found five concepts that were important to me and how I could improve on them. I started with interpersonal communication and how I need to be more personable with everyone in my work center and really listen to what they have to say, so I can get to know them better as a person. To build further, I looked at the three elements of adaptability and how the fact that I have a strong dispositional flexibility which in turn will help me strengthen the other two by keeping that positive attitude. So how I believe that I am perceived right now in my work center by all levels is that I come to work, I know how to do my job well and that I like to keep to myself most of the time, but with these changes I will be talking about below over the next three to five years will be more favorable to me as a leader. The Airmen that I supervise or mentor now are the ones who should benefit the most by the changes that I am trying to work on, being mindful of interpersonal communication along with cultural diversity and a good discipline model should be the key to being that supervisor that they both respect and want to talk with. Getting and giving feedback at the correct times will be a big help towards understanding the ripeness and readiness and using all three elements of adaptability is how I will get there. Thru the next three to five years my goal for my Airmen is to give them a supervisor they both trust and want to follow, I want to be giving them feedback on a regular basis and really I would like all of them to be instructors. I believe getting to know them better as the people they are will help me to both keep them out of trouble and better gauge for when they are ready to start that upgrade training. How I plan to do this over the next few years is by teaching them the lessons I have learned here and asking for help in the areas I am weak in so not only will I be able to help them become a well-rounded leader but I will become a stronger leader as well. It all starts with that interpersonal communication getting to know them and understanding their culture and interests and asking them in situations what they would do from the discipline model to help out there Airmen to better understand how they lead. Learning from them is just as important to be ready for any situation because we have all had different career paths and those who are usually the strongest are the ones who have been thru it and knowing that right time to act could be critical. This is also where I can seek more feedback from my peers to see if I am using more of the cognitive and emotional flexibility and to be accepting of that change and actively listening to them when they are trying
