The developmental skills that will be addressed within the segment are: Language and speech Cognitive development Fine motor skills (CHANGE SLIDE)
Explain how play and activities are used to support the development of speech, language and communication. Children should be exposed to various opportunities for speaking and listening to encourage their curiosity and promote their communicative literacy. Having limited attention span it is very difficult to engage them in any activity for longer period. It is important to conduct different activities like games, role play, puppets, storytelling, listening and sing-along, which engages them physically, mentally and support language development. Puppets – Puppets are very colourful and are very popular with young children.
It has been shown that play is very important to a childâ€TMs learning. Learning through play helps a child make positive contribution.
Other play activities could include, role play and dressing up. The use of dolls, puppets and cuddly toys. Using books to increase vocabulary.
Howard (2002) states that all early practitioners have to realise how play is vital in children development. When children are offered playing opportunities they are also given the opportunity to develop in their communication and language. A practitioner can support a child in communication and language by planning activities such as role play whereby the children will be socialising and hence communicating either with other children or the member of staff to describe what they are doing in the role play and they have to be encouraged to talk as children find playing is having fun. The children might find it easier to talk while playing and socialising. Fisher (2010) points out how play supports children’s learning and stating that when children play together with other children they get to talk and argue or express their point of view, hence, this will make them confident to speak out and therefore, these children will be gaining skills in talking and
Also, play helps children to develop their physical, mental, social and emotionally. If children and young people have access to good play provision then it many benefits for them, these may be: • It will help to increase the children and young people’s awareness, self-esteem and self-respect. • It will give them opportunity to mix with other children whatever their background or ability are. •
Why it is good helping childrening play creatively? There are three reasons why it is good to help children. First, exective functional skiils. Second, problem solving.
Provide the children with materials such as clay, paper to tear, or a ball to kick helps them practice self-control. The art and dramatic play centers are wonderful places were the children can express their feelings. Play is where children expresses and deal with their feeling. The classroom materials should encourage children to play out their feelings. Preschoolers are aware of the difference of a boy and girl.
With this balance, these kindergarteners will be able to grow up and be as successful as possible, "Play has been phased out … with the context of play." (Source E). There is no reason why educators cannot make learning fun and creative as well as productive. New methods, including "Kahoot" and "Blooket," are perfect examples. These games develop academic knowledge while also building up teamwork and social skills.
As the role play continues information is provided to the students to help them evaluate and assess what is going on and what to watch for. During some points of the role play electronic polls are given to the students to answer regarding what they “young girl” should do to test their understanding. In addition to the actual role play a study was conducted to identify the different variables that affect the educational use of the role play. At the end of the study a survey was sent out to the students to find out what they found most helpful from the role play.
Even if you’re not involved in their play it offers a sense of reassurance to children. You can also support a play based approach to learning by encouraging children to play with things they may not have played with before e.g playing with the resource yourself alongside the child. If a child sees what you can do with the resource then they are more likely to eventually participate along side you, copying what you are doing. 4.3 Evaluate different materials and equipment to support play based learning opportunities for children in their early years
They can be directed specifically to address individual areas such as speaking and listening, or can be used more generally to support all areas as they are interlinked. Play is an ideal way to engage children to communicate with others, as they can interact in a non- pressured environment. You can plan for, monitor and assess different areas of learning using play As they grow older, children will still need to be given the chance to enjoy activities and equipment that support their play, creativity and learning across the programme of teaching and learning. It is important that they are given opportunities to use their own initiative, work with others and develop in all areas. These can often be used to best effect when children are introduced to new ideas in practical, imaginative and stimulating ways.
I believe that children should do both play creatively and have organized activities. Its important that children have time to be creative and have their imagination expressed. Children should also play in organized activities because, they need to learn that those activities can help with success. Creative play will help children see that they can use anything to make anything that they imagine. I see children creative playing all the time.
With creative play, children are able to express themselves. The article named, "Helping Children Play Creatively" explains why creative play is good for children. In the aticle, it says, "According to experts in child development, children need to experience creative play to learn how to express themselves,
Role play helps improves children’s imagination creativity and broadens their social development, encourages friendship through cooperation, listening and turn taking. Through drama and role plays children learn morals, gender roles and social roles. Therefore, role play is of crucial importance for the children.
